To help our residents build a rich, fulfilled life, we employ a team with specialized skills, in-depth knowledge and, often, experience dealing with addictions and recovery personally. With their help, our clients can build a drug-free future through mental healthcare, transitional planning and community.

All we need from our clients is a strong commitment to abstain from alcohol, drugs or gambling. We provide almost everything else

Our facility

Located in downtown Lethbridge, SAM’s is a 25-bed, co-ed residential recovery treatment facility. We have 11 double rooms and 3 single rooms that become available as residents mature in the program.

All meals, except for breakfast, are prepared for our residents in our commercial kitchen by our trained cooks.

Common areas include a stocked, residential kitchen that residents have access to for preparing their own breakfast, and a living room stocked with games, puzzles, a TV with movies and resident computers.

Our building is situated within walking distance of many different services, including:

  • Bus depot
  • Government offices
  • Banks
  • Doctors
  • Dentists
  • Parole office

Living arrangements

We run an in-patient program, which means our clients live at our facility with 24 other residents. Clients start their 3 month recovery in a double bedroom with a roommate, and may be able to upgrade to a single bedroom once they mature in the program.

During the first month at SAM’s, we require all residents to stay at the facility to focus on their recovery. After that, all residents are encouraged to get back into the community and work.

Along with a room and bed, all food is provided. Residents prepare their own breakfast, typically cereal or toast from the provided groceries in the kitchen. Lunch and supper, however, is cooked by our on-site staff and served daily, usually at 11:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

All bedding is supplied and exchanged weekly for washing.

The duplex

As well as our main facility, graduates of the 3 month program can extend their living arrangements at our duplex. The duplex has eight rooms that any program graduate can apply to stay in for up to a year.

This gives our clients time to transition into their new life, make their own living arrangements and find a place of their own. During a stay at the duplex, residents have access to group sessions, as well as the counsellors they spoke with during their stay at SAM’s.

  • Mental health

While at SAM’s, residents have access to have two Registered Psychologists for weekly sessions, or more as needed. This helps residents deal with any underlying mental issues so they can enter their new life on a solid foundation.

We also frequently have practicum students doing their masters in psychology or undergraduate in addiction counseling who are available to all residents.
